Property in Palekastro, Palaikastro, Kouremenos,
Vai, CRETE
Palekastro/Palaikastro is a large village just 18km east of Sitia,
and is a good centre for enjoying this corner of Crete, with the
popular beaches of Vai, Itanos, Kourmenos, and Chiona close by.
The village itself has a good selection of Cafes Tavernas and
Restaurants as well as shops and banks etc., and is part of the
Municipality of Itanos, with strong links to the Monastery of Toplou.
In past years there has been a gradual growth of tourism, with rooms
to rent and several small hotels making it an ideal area for
relaxing holidays. The area generally has some good housing and
development opportunities.
The beach at Vai with it’s natural Palm forest is a must for many
tourists and holidaymakers, and is the second most visited site in
Crete after the Palace of Knossos. The beach at Kourmenos is a major
attraction for windsurfers, and campers and the beach at Chiona
provides for the more relaxed holidaymaker. There are also a number
of archeological sites of interest in the area, the Doric site at
Itanos being particularly fine.
This part of the island is however experiencing change with several
new holiday developments nearby, indeed it is this future
development which is encouraging the completion of the International
Airport at Sitia. There are also a range of opportunities for
smaller developers and individuals, which would benefit from the
improved infrastructure, including the new roads towards Sitia from
Heraklion. For those wishing to develop in this part of Crete the
area around Palekastro/Palaikastro could be just the place for you.
There is already a strong Real Estate presence in
the area and recently the world leader in Real Estate,
RE/AL have
developed a presence in the form of

also smaller developers in the area and the new concept of
Fractional Ownership may soon become popular. To find out
